In the video, Asma Abbas stated, “Love changes its meaning and shape with age and time. For example, love may appear to be a fairytale throughout adolescence, but later on, it is revealed to be a collection of feelings. In the twenties, the definition of love shifts, and people believe that love is all about marriage. You root for marriage and rush into it, desperate to become a housewife and mother. During our youth, girls looked to marriage to fulfill their desires. At the period, it was impossible for girls to find boyfriends or communicate with boys, thus shadi was their only option. Early marriages transformed many women into dedicated spouses and moms.
She also stated that the true essence of love is respect and compassion. Saying ‘I love you’ is ridiculous; instead, spouses should say ‘I respect you and care for you.’ Many couples live calm lives because they appreciate each other, whereas those who continually argue lack respect and care.
