Why Diljit Dosanjh faces legal action once again

Indian Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh is once again facing legal action, allegedly for singing songs that promote alcohol consumption during a Ludhiana concert.

According to Indian media, the renowned singer and actor’s New Year’s Eve concert in Ludhiana has landed in legal trouble following a complaint filed by Chandigarh-based Assistant Professor Pandit Rao Dharennavar.

The complaint compelled Punjab government’s Deputy Director to issue a formal notice to Ludhiana’s District Commissioner, urging restrictions on Diljit from performing certain songs during his live show on December 31, 2024.

The notice specifically demands a ban on songs perceived to promote alcohol consumption, such as Patiala Peg, 5 Taara Theke, and Case, which have sparked controversy.

It also references prior warnings issued by various commissions prohibiting the singer from performing these contentious songs. However, despite these advisories, Diljit allegedly continued to perform the tracks, with slight alterations, during the New Year’s Eve event.
