What does it take to transform a simple discussion into a life-altering opportunity? For actor Wahaj Ali, it took six months of concentration and unshakeable faith in his ability.
In an interview with Fuchsia Magazine, filmmaker Fahim Burney discussed how he saw Wahaj Ali’s acting aptitude and assisted him in his first steps into the entertainment scene.
He first met Wahaj Ali on Nadia Khan’s set, where Ali worked “as a very active and hardworking” line producer. “I called him over and joked about whether he could seriously pursue acting” , recalled the man.

Burney remembers an encounter in which Wahaj asked for his advice on acting: “I stared at him and teasingly responded, ‘You think you can act?’ He said firmly, ‘Tell me when you want to see me transformed.’ Amused, I granted him six months to improve himself and invited him to come to Karachi if he was sincere.”

The director admitted to having “almost forgotten about him” until one day, while auditioning for a movie with Resham, someone claimed Wahaj had come to meet him.

“Initially, I couldn’t remember his name. But when he walked in, I could see the transformation. He boldly stated, ‘Fahim Bhai, six months are over; I’m here for the position.’ I was impressed and cast him as a devar (younger brother-in-law) in the HUM TV show. He worked alongside Resham and did an excellent job.
Burney then collaborated with Wahaj on the film Mere Dil Mere, in which he costarred with Asfar Rehman and others.

Reflecting on Wahaj Ali’s experience, he stated, “Seeing his growth and dedication fills me with joy.”
