Rajab Butt Punished in Lion Cub Case
A Lahore court has fined famous YouTuber Rajab Butt Rs. 50,000 and sentenced him to community service for illegally keeping a lion cub.
Rajab Butt has been ordered to create and upload videos on animal rights protection to his social media platforms every month for one year.
Judicial Magistrate Hamid ur Rehman stated in the verdict that Rajab Butt must upload a five-minute video during the first week of each month, aiming to educate the public on wildlife conservation and the dangers of illegal hunting. The Wildlife Department will monitor these videos.
Rajab Butt had accepted a lion cub as a gift during his wedding, which is a violation of wildlife laws.
The Wildlife Department filed a case against him for keeping the lion cub without proper authorization and a license. Rajab Butt admitted to his crime in court and left himself at the mercy of the court.
The court stated that if the convict fails to fulfill the responsibilities of community service, he could face imprisonment. Upon completion of the community service, Rajab Butt will be issued a certificate, signifying that he has atoned for his crime.
According to the court’s decision, the lion cub will currently be kept in Safari Park and will remain there until further notice.
In his statement, TikToker Rajab Butt said, “I admit that the lion cub was found in my possession illegally. I was unaware that wild animals cannot be accepted as gifts. I now understand that keeping wild animals in such circumstances is inappropriate. As a social media influencer, I should create positive content.”
He further added, “I was not authorized to keep the lion cub, and through this act, I set a bad example. Realizing my mistake, I will voluntarily use my social media platform to provide community service and spread a positive message about the rights of wild animals. I leave myself at the mercy of the court.”
