Shae Gill’s real name will surprise you
Shae Gill said that her real name is Anoushey, from whence her moniker ‘Shae’ is derived. It was given to her by university classmates who compared her to a character in the Game of Thrones series. The name stayed and ultimately became her stage name.
Shae also discussed her rise to unexpected stardom. She studied commerce with the intention of becoming an entrepreneur, having originally envisioned a corporate job.
“I never thought about becoming a singer,” she said. However, life took a different turn during her university years. With the help of her friend Iman, she began posting singing videos on Instagram, which led to her breakout performance on Coke Studio.
“It happened by accident, but I am grateful to God for this fame,” she told me.
Shae Gill’s career highlights included working alongside the renowned Ali Sethi.
“I was awed by him. “His knowledge, particularly from his Harvard education, is truly inspiring,” she acknowledged.
Shae Gill also discussed her dream collaboration, expressing enthusiasm for collaborating with singer and comedian Chahat Fateh Ali Khan.
“If I get the chance, I’d love to work with Chahat Fateh Ali Khan,” she said passionately.
Shae Gill chose Chahat over Rahat Fateh Ali Khan as her preferred collaborator.
When questioned about her workout routine, Shae chuckled and admitted she doesn’t have one. “I stay in shape because of my hectic schedule,” she explained.
Shae Gill previously emerged as the breakout star of 2022 when her debut pair with Ali Sethi on Coke Studio, Pasoori, wowed listeners all across the world. She now performs at international concerts and is an Equal Ambassador for Spotify.
So, what comes next for the singing sensation? Pakistani singers have made their way to the big screen or television, such as Atif Aslam, who appeared in the films ‘Bol’ and ‘Sang-e-Mah’. Will Gill be following in their footsteps?
In an interview with Aamna Haider Isani, Gill claimed that she has received offers to participate in dramas and play asinger, but she turned them down.
“If the script would have been nice then I would have been ok..” she told me.
Later in the interview, Gill admitted that many Pakistani singers have decided to work as actors, but she will only do so if she discovers a suitable script.
“My generation doesn’t watch dramas too much. We do, but only a few. I’ve seen Udaari, Humsafar, and a bit of Bhaagi, and they were all great. But if a good script comes along, I might try.”
